This week the children have been digging into Ancient Egypt. In art we have been writing using hieroglyphs. Egyptian hieroglyphs were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt, Hieroglyphs combined logographic, syllabic and alphabetic elements, with a total of some 1,000 distinct characters. Our hieroglyphs have been written on a cartouche. What are cartouches used for? Cartouches were first used around 2500 BC. The cartouche was written on tombs to mark which pharaoh was buried inside. A cartouche could also be worn as an amulet, to protect the pharaohs.
Check out our cool cartouches!

In PSHE we have been focusing on the impact of drugs and alcohol. The children are having fantastic discussions about choices, pressure, media, healthy behaviour, unhealthy behaviour, informed decisions and influence. We are enjoying this topic.
