In English, our text has been ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’ We were shocked to find a beanstalk outside our classroom which had grown overnight just after the Easter break. Our classroom has also been trashed and we found giant footsteps all around the school. We made links to the story ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and decided to use this as our English text. We have had so much fun learning the story by heart using actions, writing a letter to Jack’s mum, writing character descriptions and writing about what we would find at the top of our very own beanstalks. This week we have started to plan and write our very own versions of the story.

In Maths, we have started to look at numbers to 50. We have learnt to count in multiples of 10 and understand that multiples of 10 can be represented in many different ways. We also learnt that a 10 can be exchanged for ten ones. We have counted forwards and backwards in multiples of 10 on a number line and filled in missing number sequences by using our knowledge of numbers to ten.

This half term, our topic is ‘Let it Grow.’ We had a fantastic launch to our topic where we visited the Devonshire Road Nature reserve. We had the opportunity to explore different plants, flowers and trees. We have learnt about the different parts of a flower and of a tree and labelled these in diagrams. This week we planted our very own beans on wet tissue to allow us to see germination. We will be observing what happens to the bean each week and recording our findings in our bean diary.
