As part of our Take One Artist project, we have been learning about a Japanese artist called Yayoi Kusama who makes lots of different paintings, sculptures and installations using polka dots! We explored her ideas and influences and created a sketch book page all about her and her works as well as re-creating small sketches using polka dots. We will soon be making our own clay sculptures in the style of Yayoi Kusama!
Our topic this half term is all about the Windrush voyages and as part of our learning we are reading an autobiography called ‘Coming to England’ by Floella Benjamin who migrated from Trinidad to settle in England in 1960. We are discovering what life was like for her in Trinidad and the adventures she had on board the ship travelling to England. We will soon be writing a biography about her childhood in Trinidad and England, as well as her career, recognitions and achievements.
In Science, we are busy learning about forces and magnets. We found out that some forces need contact between two objects but that magnetic forces can act at a distance. We had great fun using magnets to move paperclips without even touching them!
