A big change in Year 6 is that we spend our afternoon in topic groups rather than our classes. We rotate three times a week, so everyone has one art, one computing and this term, one science lesson per week (last term we did history). Here’s what we’ve been learning in each of the subjects:
Our science topic is called ‘Pump it Up!’ which is all about the circulatory system. We have been learning all about the heart and labelling it. It has been very exciting because we get to do fun science experiments like making blood!
In art we have been looking at two specific artists (Sh’an d’Athes and David Hockney). Sha’an is from Sydney, Australia and draws cartoon-like drawings whilst David Hockney is a British artist who produces landscape drawings. We have enjoyed learning about their different styles of art.
In computing we have been using spreadsheets to hold data and help solve problems. We have also been learning about QR and barcodes and the use of infrared light to send and transmit data.
We are really enjoying our topic lessons!
