In Amber Class we have been enjoying our new topic of Amazing Animals. We were fascinated by the animals brought in by ‘Spirit of the Wild’. We learnt lots of new vocabulary about different animals such as camouflage, nocturnal, predator, prey, carnivore and herbivore. We have been learning about the different groups of animals and finding out about these. Did you know that a human is a mammal and so are bears?
In English we have been reading the story ‘The Koala who Could’ and we have been thinking about how the characters in the story feel at different points in the story. We are now learning to tell this story off by heart and even have a go at changing the story so that it is not a bird that knocks the tree down, but a different animal. Chino’s story is going to have a Kangraroo who is going to cut the tree down with a chainsaw! Aurora’s story is going to have a snake that squeezes the tree so hard that it falls down. Milo’s story is going to have a crocodile who chomps the tree down with it’s sharp teeth.
In maths we have been working on our adding skills and learning that commutative means that adding can be done in any order and an addend is a number that adds to another number to make a total or a sum.
In geography we enjoyed learning about our planet and how to find the seven continents using maps, digital maps, globes and atlases.
