What a fantastic start to the term we have had in Orchid class! This half term our topic is ‘We Are Gardeners!’ In English we have read the book ‘Errol’s Garden’ by Gillian Hibbs where we have explored different types of herbs, what things we can find in gardens and helped Errol from the story to design a rooftop garden. We’ve also learnt about plants and their different parts. This week we have been finding out about the function of the different parts – soil, root, stem, leaves and petals.
We’ve had so much fun in Maths! We have loved learning about measuring length and weight. We’ve made our own hand rulers to measure different objects in our environment and used the scales to compare objects using the key vocabulary lighter and heavier. This week we have begun to learn about number bonds to 10. We have been exploring different ways we can split the number 10.
In Topic, we have been learning all about plants. We’ve looked at what a plant needs to grow and planted our very own herbs for our garden. The children loved decorating their own pots and using these to plant their herbs. Last week, we had our first Forest School session. The children had so much fun learning outside and exploring.
