Amber have been excited and enthralled about the launch of our new topic ‘extraordinary explorers’.
In English we have started learning about the fascinating text ‘Chalk’. We discovered a huge piece of chalk on our chairs and then along with our friends in Amber and Coral, went outside just like in the book to draw and illustrate with our piece of chalk. One child in Amber described this similar to ‘finding a piece of gold’, and took great care with his chalk. All of us loved our time outside where we drew lots of different pictures and decorated all of the playground. Some of us drew animals, some people, some houses and some of us worked collaboratively and others on our own.
Later in the week we discovered a wrapped up present and piece of chalk in our classroom. We opened it, it was the book ‘Chalk’, which is a book about some children in a park who draw pictures with chalk which included the sun, butterflies and a dinosaur! These come to life, but then something happens! We tried to predict what might happen, and used adjectives to describe the pictures and we also drew story maps to help us learn and retell the story. We acted out the story and focused on the different characters and looked at the beautiful illustrations in detail.
In maths we have been learning how to use addition and subtraction strategies within 10. We then moved onto doubling and halving. We have been doing practical activities as well as recording our number sentences.
In PSCHE we have started learning about staying and keeping healthy, we will be continuing with this learning and will be making healthy smoothies.
In history we have started to find out about extraordinary explorers, including Zheng He and Ellen Mac Arthur.
