In Brass Class, we are full of anticipation for all our SATs papers this week. Some of us feel nervous, some of us feel excited and some of us are feeling a big mix of emotions but we know we are ready to take on the challenge!
In maths this week, we have been busy solving a range of maths problems and discussing how to tackle questions that require us to use more than one calculation to find the answer. In English, we used a music video as inspiration for writing a backstory for a character that experiences something unusual at school.
Our topic is ‘Shocks and Scares’ which we have explored in English and science lessons. We began by making mini-torches, used LEDs, foil and batteries. It was a great opportunity to use our prior knowledge about electricity and launch the topic. Now, we are designing and carrying out our own investigation linked to circuits and using technical vocabulary to write our conclusions.
In computing, we have been learning about big data, hacking, and smart cities. We have enjoyed learning about hacking because it helps us to know that we can avoid hackers who try to steal our data and personal information. Also, we have been designing smart cities that can analyse data and share the information with shops to help them grow financially by understanding what the consumer wants.
We have been looking at optical art and creating our own drawn optical illusions. We have been inspired by the artist Bridget Riley to create a tessellation pattern. This week, we were excited to cut out lino stamps using line cutters and bench hooks. We can’t wait to print them next week!
