Our topic this term in Lavender class is ‘Painting on Walls’. We have been revisiting different periods in history that we have studied previously whilst at Kelvin Grove e.g. the Stone Age and Ancient Egypt. We have questioned what we can learn about these times from the painting the people did on the walls of caves, tombs or places of worship. We’re looking forward to revisiting Ancient Greece and the Romans before finding out more about modern day graffiti.
In reading we are studying a text about Jean-Michel Basquiat, who was a very famous graffiti artist from Brooklyn, New York City. It is really interesting finding out who and what influenced him to become one of today’s most celebrated graffiti artists.
In Art we are reproducing a piece of 1980s graffiti in a range of different mediums. It is quite tricky to get the drawing of our own part of the whole piece accurate enough that when we fit all the class’s pieces together, it forms one whole image!
