In Azure Class we have been really enjoying finding out about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings and have been learning about the reasons why they invaded and why they decided whether to settle or not. We had a workshop run by ‘Perform’ and we explored these ideas through drama. By recreating scenes in freeze frames, we were able to begin to understand their motives and form our own opinions. We have been reading the book ‘Viking Voyages’ in whole class guided reading and we have found out about the different Norse Gods that the Vikings believed in, their characteristics and how they behaved. In our home learning some children have made their own Top Trumps games for the different Norse Gods.
Last half term we wrote letters to humankind to explain our concerns about pollution and its effect on the environment. We then decided who would be best to listen to our concerns and act upon these. We then posted our letters to government officials, the media authors and environmental activists. We were delighted to receive replies. Louise Krupski from Lewisham, 10 Downing Street and Newsround.
