This week in Cobalt class we have been continuing our learning of fractions in maths. We have been learning how to find a fraction of an amount. We have been using bar models to help our understanding of dividing by the denominator and then multiplying by the numerator.
In English we have been reading Varjak Paw. We have created a roll on wall of the main character Varjak, he’s a Mesopotamian Blue kitten who longs to have grand adventures outside his home. We have also been generating vocabulary using our senses, to help describe a setting.
In the afternoon we have began our new science unit. We have looked at vertebrates and invertebrates and used Venn diagrams to sort different animals based on their characteristics.
In art we looked at Frank Bowling and researched the process he goes through when creating his abstract art. He uses different painting mediums in his paintings and even hides objects, like smashed shells. It’s been so much fun experimenting with different types of paint and unusual painting tools! We used a number of different tools and techniques to replicate one of his art pieces in our books before creating our own larger piece on paper. We’re very excited to next work on canvas!
