This week in Brass Class, we have been doing lots of fun learning: looking at Mr Men and Little Miss’s children, extracting DNA – I’m sure you want to hear more…
During science this week, we have been learning all about inheritance – the characteristics we inherit from our parents through our DNA. Looking at Mr Men and Little Miss characters, we were deciding the features they would inherit if they had children. Clumsiness, for example, could be inherited if Mr Bump was your father! We then got to try and extract DNA from fruit; it worked most successfully with strawberries and blueberries. It was fascinating.
In English, we have been learning all about what suspense is – building up tension for the reader to make them feel fearful or excited and wanting to read on. We learnt all about lulling the reader (creating a false sense of security) and looked at how this is done using a clip from the film ‘The Impossible’. We are going to write our own suspense story next week. We can’t wait to make the reader feel scared!
Our time in Year 6 is already flying by and we’re enjoying every moment of it.
