Violet class have had a brilliant term! In maths we have been identifying prime numbers, prime numbers have exactly two factors: 1 and itself. A composite number has more than two factors and both composite and prime numbers can be odd or even. We have been using our knowledge of multiples and factors to determine which numbers are prime numbers.
Our topic ‘Why Should We Remember’ is all about World War II and for the last couple of weeks we have been looking at the impact of the Blitz on London. This week we did field work! In geography we have researched how Sydenham was impacted by the Blitz and this week we went on a local walk looking for evidence and remnants of the war. We went armed with our maps and walked through Sydenham High Street, around Fairlawn Park Road and through Watlington Grove. It was interesting to see Victorian houses still bearing evidence from the bombings and it was eye-opening to see the real life scale of just how many houses had been completely demolished by the Blitz.

In art we have joined the whole school in our annual Take One Artist project, exploring the abstract artworks of Helen Frankenthaler. We have been honing our techniques to create scrape paintings. We enjoyed this process so much last year and it’s been great developing our skills further this year, whilst learning about a new abstract artist. Our works have been all about creating layers this term. We have been working on our final artworks using precision tip applicator bottles and palette knives to have more control over the detail in our pieces. Stay tuned for the finished artworks!
