In Azure Class we have launched ourselves back 2000 years to the time when the Romans were building up their empire. We have been learning about why and when the Romans invaded other countries and the reasons why they wanted to conquer them and add them to their empire. In Year 3 we learnt about the Ancient Greeks and Alexander the Great. Now we know that after he died the Romans were able to take over the Greek Empire. Did you know that the Romans failed to invade Britain twice before they were able to add Britain to the Roman Empire? Julius Caesar originally wanted to invade in 55BCE but had to turn back to France because of bad weather. In 43CE Emperor Claudius successfully invaded.
This week we have been finding out how we know so much about life in Roman times. We have discovered that this is thanks to archaeologists. We had an exciting lesson where we were able to actually hold and look closely at real different artefacts. We looked at them carefully, sketched them and thought about what they were made of, what we thought they were and why they were used. We are looking forward to the big reveal next week when we discover the truth behind the artefacts!
