It has been an action-packed start to 2024 in Jade Class! We are learning to play the ukulele in music and it has been so much fun. This week we learnt more songs using open strings and have perfected the ukulele body song!
In science, we have become geologists classifying rocks and describing their various textures and appearance. We have carried out several investigations including the permeability of different soil types. We even became palaeontologists investigating how fossils are formed and creating our own fossils! We are now launching into our topic ‘Quakes and Shakes’ where we will be making volcano models and learning all about the effects of volcanoes and earthquakes on human life.
In English, we have been studying a book called ‘Small in the City’ by Sydney Smith about a little boy who navigates his way through the busy city providing helpful advice to his lost cat. We thought about what it would be like to be small in the city and wrote our own poems. We then wrote our own ending to the story.
We have been very busy learning our 3 and 4 times tables in Maths. We have also learned how to divide by 3 and 4, by sharing and grouping. We learned that multiplication is commutative and how to represent this by drawing arrays. We’re excited that soon we will be learning our 8 times tables!
