It’s been a super hectic term so far in Violet class. We’ve dived right into our new topic ‘Treasured Tombs and Fascinating Pharaohs’ learning about ancient Egypt. We have looked at an overview of events from the past, and this week we created a timeline of important dates to better understand the people and events we will learn about later. In English we have been looking at the structures of Fairy Tales, identifying key features of the Fairy Tale genre and have even begun writing our own short Fairy Tale stories. In Art we have been sketching scarab beetles and then designed our own. Scarab beetles were important symbols of rebirth and resurrection, as well as good luck and fortune. We were excited to use clay this week to sculpt our designs! We used clay tools to carve specific details and add patterns or hieroglyphs, we also learnt how to create slips to join pieces of clay. Joining the clay to add pincers or legs was very tricky and fiddly but we persevered and think our scarab beetles came out great. We’re can’t wait to paint them next week!
