Bronze Class have had a brilliant term, working hard in all our lessons and getting prepared for our SATs after half term. We have really enjoyed our Topic this term, learning about Japan, and their history, traditions and culture. In English we have been finishing our own piece of writing guessing what is in the ‘forbidden room’. This piece has been inspired by the spooky Japanese myth, ‘The Goblin of Adachigahara’. It has been a balancing act to build suspense and make our stories scary without being obvious!
In art we have continued drawing Manga, and this week looked closely at comic book and Manga artist Peach Momoko. We looked at her most recent series of Marvel comic book covers, some also inspired by Horror Manga, and it has been great seeing how she creates popular characters we know in the Manga style. We have started learning how to draw side profiles in her style and are excited to design our own characters next!
We finished up with a fantastic trip to the Young V&A Museum, specifically to see their Japan: Myths to Manga exhibition. It was eye opening to see how much Japanese folklore has inspired popular culture in Japan and across the world! It was also really fun to interact with some of the objects on display and see our favourite Anime and Manga characters in a museum. After the exhibition, we had time to explore the other gallery’s where they had many toys and props on display. It was surreal to see so many toys we know and recognise (and have even played with!) behind glass displays. We had time to play both modern and vintage computer games, board games from the 80’s, hop onto the V&A stage for a quick performance, create shadow puppets, design our own characters and even explored an optical illusion miniature room!
