We made the most of our final full day here at Nethercott Farm and it’s been packed with even more hands-on experiences!
In the morning we helped feed the cows, chickens and pigs, learning how important routine is on a working farm and making sure every animal was well looked after. We also spent more time with the chickens, they have been surprisingly cuddly and we’re definitely growing very fond of them!
In the gardens and greenhouses, we were busy planting seedlings and learning how crops are carefully grown and looked after. While working, we even discovered some mushrooms growing in the garden, which sparked lots of curiosity and questions (they looked quite like ears!)
Back down at the Spinney, we enjoyed more forest school activities, building on the skills we’ve learnt this week and working brilliantly together outdoors.
We also collected eggs ready for meals, which felt like a perfect reminder of how much we’ve learned about where our food comes from. In the kitchen, the delicious smells gave it away, some of us were busy making apple crumbles! Using fresh ingredients and the cooking skills we’ve developed, we prepared puddings that tasted even better knowing we’d made them ourselves.
It’s hard to believe our time here is nearly over. We’ve gained confidence, independence and fantastic memories, and we’re enjoying every last moment together on the farm.
