It’s our final full day in France!
Our morning began with a trip into town for our exciting market challenge. The task? To shop for ingredients and create the most delicious lunch, while sticking to a €40 – 45 budget! (Depending on group size.) The market was bustling with locals and full of tempting smells and colourful fruits. Everything looked and smelled savoureux, making it hard to decide what to buy!
We worked in our day groups, using our best French to greet locals and make our purchases. Most groups opted for a mix of; fresh fruits, baguettes, cheeses, meats, or vegetables.

Back at the château, we worked together in the dining room to prep our lunches, paying close attention to the presentation as the château staff judged our efforts. While all the lunches looked delicious, we later found out that Miss Gibbs’ group had won. It was a very close call!
After lunch, we continued our day at the Bayeux War Cemetery, where we paid our respects to the fallen soldiers and learned about Corporal Sidney Bates, a brave British soldier from Camberwell who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his incredible courage. Despite being shot multiple times, he single-handedly charged the enemy, forcing them to retreat. It was a powerful and emotional visit, especially when we saw how young many of the servicemen and women were. We were moved by his story and the experience at Bayeux, it will be a day we won’t forget.

We headed back to the château for some free time playing on the grounds before our afternoon activity playing Disc Golf! Mr Clark got us into groups and then we were off across the grounds to play. The aim of the game is simple: throw a frisbee disc from the starting point towards a target basket, trying to complete each hole in as few throws as possible. It took concentration, accuracy, and teamwork, and everyone encouraged each other throughout the course. We had so much fun laughing at the tricky shots, celebrating great throws, and enjoying the challenge together.

After dinner we had our final event(s) of the evening, a disco! Some of us even enjoyed the crepe night, making (and, of course, eating!) crepes. We loved singing and dancing together, and spending our last euros in the tuck shop. It was the best way to end our week away.
Now we are off to pack and get ready for our long journey home!
Bonne nuit from Normandy—we can’t wait to share more with you when we’re home!
