In Year 3 we have completed our learning on persuasive writing based on the movie clip ‘Pigeon Impossible’ about a pigeon who gets trapped inside a spies briefcase and causes all kinds of mayhem. This inspired us to design our own gadgets for spies! We then used our persuasive writing skills to advertise our gadgets and made models of our gadgets. What fun we had! This week, we are writing poems using poetic devices such as; metaphors, similes, alliteration and onomatopoeia based around the story of ‘The Firework Makers’ Daughter’ by Philip Pullman.
In maths, we have been exploring multiplication and division and learning about the relationship between the two. We have continued to practice our 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x and 10x times tables and have been learning how to multiply and divide a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using the expanded method where we partition the tens and ones and re-combine the parts to find our answer. We have really enjoyed using place value counters to help us.
In Topic (Science) we have been learning all about light, we have learnt about the sources of light, how shadows are formed and much more! This week we have been experimenting with shadows. We have discovered that you can change the size of a shadow depending on how close the light source is the object. This has been a great topic as we have been able to carry out lots of experiments.
