This half term in Reception we are learning about growing. We have launched our topic by reading the story “Errol’s Garden” by Gillian Hibbs. Errol loves gardening, but like lots of us, he doesn’t have a real garden. He grows plants around his flat in all sorts of different pots and containers and dreams of having a garden of his very own. We have designed our own imaginary gardens and made posters for Errol, asking people to help him set up a garden on the roof:
We have also looked at the different jobs gardener do. This week we are going to be decorating our own pot, like Errol and planting our own seeds and watching them grow. We will also be writing instructions for how to grow a plant.
In our topic work we are finding out about what plants need to grow and we also looked at the famous ‘Sunflowers’ painting by Van Gough and had a go at drawing and painting our own sunflowers picture in our favourite colour.
In Maths we have had lots of fun playing hide and seek with our toys and describing where we have hidden them.
We have also enjoyed Miss Drewe’s phonics lessons and learning digraphs and trigraphs.
