The children have had a very positive start to the new academic year in Year 1. I am impressed with how the children have settled into the structured morning routines and year 1 expectations.
We have spent time looking at numbers to ten and representing these in different ways. Last week we began to compare different numbers, sets of objects and amounts using the mathematical terms greater than, less than and equal to. We came up with actions to help us remember the terms.
We have carried on reading the text ‘Here We Are’ By Oliver Jeffers. We have written letters to Beegu the alien telling him about all the features of Earth and all the things you can do here.
In Science, we have been using our senses to explore different textures, smells, tastes, objects and sounds. We had a sensory session where our senses were put to the test.
We have spent time establishing what makes a safe and happy classroom. The children have come up with some class rules to help us to learn in a safe and stimulating environment. We have also been learning to talk about our feelings and how to regulate them with our ‘mood monsters’. The children have enjoyed learning the school values and have been keen to earn tokens by showing these values in their learning.
