Year 6 have had a great week! We have been learning all about the Black Death as part our new topic ‘disease and development’. The kids have learned so much about the Middle Ages and the plague in only a week and are now truly historic experts on this topic.
In English, we are writing our own Horrible Histories text about the plague and we’ve really enjoyed using humour and word play to bring this gruesome topic to life. In History, we’ve been looking at this time period in more depth to understand how living conditions and medical beliefs helped the bubonic plague spread so quickly. By investigating how different groups of Medieval people experienced the plague, we are starting to see how disease and medicine is different depending on location (urban vs rural) or economic background (rich vs poor). We will continue to look at these strands as we learn about different pandemics and medical advancements through history, ultimately trying to answer our key enquiry question: Have we got better at fighting disease?
