Year Six Amazing Bronze News
In Bronze this half term, we have been doing all sorts of fantastic learning. In the news below, we shall inform you all of the things we have done in the past few weeks.
For English in Bronze class, we have been learning about the Rain Player and how Pik (the main character) challenges a mighty rain god -Chac- to a Pok-a-tok match, and goes on an adventure to find help. Also, we have recently started to plan our own autobiography. If you do not know what that is, it is writing about yourself and bringing in your own personal pictures to show everyone.
We are learning about the clever Maya and their civilization. We have discovered that the Maya empire had lasted for so long thanks to their rich crops and medicine, peaceful civilisation and … delish chocolate!! Thanks Maya empire :). Also in a part of Mexico, the Maya had suffered from having no rain water. They had to cleverly make a chamber (chulton) to save water as usually all the water would be absorbed by limestone. Did you know that a chulton can hold up to 10,000 gallons? Amazing Right?
In Bronze class these past few weeks, we have been learning about negative numbers, greater than and less than symbols, roman numerals, rounding numbers and lots more!
Examples:
LXVI=66
500<674
-9 + 5=-4
-9 – 5=-14
78 rounded to the nearest 10=80
In art, we have been creative and have designed our own glyphs representing our birthdays – cool right? Also, we have learnt the different types of charcoal: graphite stick, willow, charcoal pencil and compressed. Using the types of charcoal, we used different techniques to design our birthday glyphs. Later on, we are going to sculpture our design onto clay!
In grammar and punctuation this week Bronze class has been learning about verbs, adverbs, adjectives and finding the differences between clauses and phrases. Later on, our GaPS books shall be great revisions for SATs.
Bronze children have been doing amazing and we are going to keep that going! 🙂
