We are having a blast in Azure Class reading Varjak Paw by SF Said. Exploring the lives of cats, both pets and strays, has been so interesting. Varjak’s adventure beyond the Great Wall has us on the edge of our seats! One day Varjak is forced to leave his home and venture into the city. He makes some new friends who teach him about the gangs and the mysterious Vanishings. We have been writing news reports on the mysterious Vanishings happening in the story and sharing them on our chrome books.
Dave McKean’s artwork in Varjak Paw has really caught our attention. His unique style and use of different media, especially inks, have inspired us. We loved his caricature of Heston Blumenthal and how he creates depth and intensity with just one colour.
In Science, we have been using classification keys to identify trees and creatures on our playground. We have sycamore trees, cherry trees, apple trees and birch trees. We also looked at where we could find lichen, which grows in areas of air pollution and help clean the air. Learning about the impact of climate change and human activity has motivated us to come up with positive changes. We designed streets with more trees, wildlife, and less cars to create safe spaces for us to play. We even entered a competition with Build the Change to share our ideas with adults.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Azure Class!
